The WRIGHT Story

Honoring Mable Jeanette Wright:

The Heart of The Wright Community School

The Wright Community School was founded with a profound legacy at its core—honoring Mable Jeanette Wright, the beloved grandmother of our founder and CEO, Tiana N. Stephenson. Mable's influence on Tiana shaped not only a love of learning but also inspired the mission of our school: to create a nurturing space where every student feels seen, heard, and valued.

Mable's Life and Legacy

Born on December 1, 1929, in the small town of Hobson, Virginia, Mable Jeanette Wright embodied the spirit of resilience and dedication throughout her life. She worked various roles—from housewife to factory worker, and later as an office professional at the age of 50. But to Tiana, Mable was more than her accomplishments; she was her teacher, her guide, and her protector.

She and Tiana would spend hours together reading and solving math problems. Mable taught Tiana to see education as a gateway to a brighter future, instilling a deep respect for the transformative power of knowledge. This respect for education became the guiding principle for Tiana, especially during the chaotic times that followed Mable's passing.

A School Inspired by a Grandmother's Wisdom

When life became chaotic, Tiana found consistency and comfort in school. Her educational journey, grounded in the values Mable taught her, led Tiana to a path of creating a school that could be a safe place for others as it was for her. This personal mission crystallized into what is now The Wright Community School, a name that honors Mable.

Continuing the Legacy

For Tiana, The Wright Community School is more than an educational institution; it is a continuation of Mable’s work. She views the school as a means to pour into the community the care, attention, and support that Mable poured into her. Through this ongoing tribute, Tiana ensures that her grandmother’s values of love, education, and empowerment are passed on to future generations.

“My grandmother, Mable Jeanette Wright, was my inspiration and my first teacher. At The Wright Community School, we honor her memory by making sure every student experiences the same love and dedication she showed me,” says Tiana.

By nurturing and valuing its students, The Wright Community School stands as a living legacy to Mable Jeanette Wright, ensuring that her spirit of education and empowerment continues to inspire and shape young minds.

The WRIGHT Representation

At The Wright Community School, we selected yellow, green, and maroon as our school colors in collaboration with our community. Yellow symbolizes hope, happiness, light, and confidence, reflecting our mission to empower students to grow and make informed choices. Green represents drive, calmness, and motivation, aligning with our goal to foster personal development and self-determination. Maroon adds a touch of ambition, confidence, and strength, underscoring our commitment to helping students achieve their full potential. Together, these colors embody our vision and mission, reinforcing the supportive and empowering environment we aim to create for our students and community.

The WRIGHT Colors

Clayton County is home to the Atlanta airport, a symbol of movement and possibility, much like the story of the Wright Brothers. Though they weren’t the first to fly, they were the first to succeed, showing the power of "succeeding through failure." Inspired by their story, we incorporated a plane into The Wright Community School logo.

After listening to community feedback, we transitioned the plane to a paper plane to avoid confusion with an aviation program. The paper plane symbolizes uniqueness, as no two flights are the same due to wind, air currents, and flight paths. Similarly, every student is different, and their success depends on the effort and support they receive.

The paper plane flying out of the school in the logo represents our commitment to shaping students’ trajectories, preparing them to soar toward their own unique destinations.

The Wright Community School mascot, “Pat the Pilot,” is named in honor of the founder’s second cousin, Dr. Patrick Hudgins. Patrick, meaning noble, reflects the high aspirations we have for our students. Dr. Hudgins, a clinician with extensive experience in mental health and education, inspired the founder by demonstrating that completing college was possible and by bringing joy and encouragement during her summers in Virginia. “Pat the Pilot” embodies this spirit of guidance, inspiration, and the belief that every student can chart their own path to success.
